Thanks to Sam Talley, who adds: "My grandfather George Bowen helped load this ship. It capped a career at Bay City Mill that lasted one day short of 30 years. There were no labor unions. When ships were in, the crews worked 16-hour days, no over time. When the mill closed there were no 'thank you's", retirement or anything. The men clocked out and that was it."
