The two firefighters in this photo are Don Ackerlund and Ed Peterson respectively. As school children of Robert Gray Elementary watch, they demonstrate one of the early types of breathing apparatus called a chem-ox canister mask, used at that time. Firefighters at the AFD nicknamed them "chicken eyes". Thanks to Dave Carlberg for contributing information.
