Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "Porter was first settled by Corydon F. Porter. He came to the area in 1852 and settled along the Chehalis River at the present site in 1860. Mr. Porter was one of the signers of the document creating Washington Territory from the Oregon Territory. Porter is located on Highwy 12 between Montesano and Oakville."
