Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "The Westport Lighthouse, officially called the Grays Harbor Lighthouse, was built in 1890 because so many lumber ships were calling on the Harbor ports for loads and some were running aground in bad weather. It is brick with a concrete cover. Initially it had a foghorn with a steam plant to run the foghorn, but it burned down in 1916 and was automated. Today the foghorn is secured to the end of the South jetty. The lighthouse stands 107 feet high and has 135 metal stairs inside climbing to the top. When the lighthouse was built it was only 400 feet away from high tide, but the South jetty has caused the sand dunes to add land so it now stands 3,000 feet from the water. In 1992 a new 35-watt light was installed which can be seen 19 miles out at sea."
