Description

An aerial view by Stan Spiegle.
Thanks to Sam Talley, who writes: "My grandmother said that when her family Henry and Mary Halverson came to Cosmopolis prior to 1900 to build their house at 611 F St. the bend in the river across from Cosie was a prime gravel bottom salmon fishing area for several Indian groups. As the river was dredged for ship's passage and the old Commercial mill site was filled in, the fishing area was changed. Then in the 1950's Weyerhaeuser dredged millions of cubic feet of fill mud and sand from the river to fill in the present Weyco pulp mill site. The gravel shoreline was changed and is no longer a prime salmon fishing spot.”
