Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "The P-51 Mustang 'changed the course of WWII. It was powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine and was a single-seat long range fighter. Many countries used it in their Air Forces until the 1980's. In the mid-1960's Ford Motor Company named the sporty Mustang after it."
