Description

This aerial view by Stan Spiegle shows log rafts on the Hoquiam River.
Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "There was a log dump outside Hoquiam on Highway 101 as late as the 1960's. Several big logs extended from the river bank down into the water, the logs slid down these to be rafted. In the long view of things, loose bark settled to the bottom and fouled the river badly. The dump appears to be opposite the uppermost full log raft. Also, one of the small white buildings at the very bottom of this photo was used by a cascara bark buyer around 1960. Cascara was readily available in the woods along the left side of Highway 101."
