Thanks to Sam Talley, who adds: "The tall hot water tank next to the cook stove was supplied by cold water that circulated through copper coils that lined the firebox in the left side of the stove. The heated water would rise in the pipe that goes into the upper part of the tank. When the stove fire went out, you'd have about one hour before the tank cooled down. All the early homes also had this system before electric tanks took over."
