Aberdeen Black Cats

Description

Thanks to Terri Middleton for contributing information.
Additional thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "Aberdeen had the Black Cats, Hoquiam had the Loggers. They were know as 'town teams' and their games were the most popular sports events in the area into the 1930's. Some of the players made it to the major leagues. The games were played in Electric Park and often drew crowds of 2,000 fans. In later years the Aberdeen-Hoquiam high school Thanksgiving Day games took over as the area's biggest sports events.
The Black Cats began in 1907, playing in the Northwestern League. In 1918 the league was changed to the Pacific Coast International League and later to the Timber League. On October 18, 1924 the Timber League All-Stars played the Tacoma All-Stars in Tacoma. Babe Ruth made an appearance and Aberdeen pitcher Tom Lukanovic struck out the Babe.
There are Black Cat baseball jerseys available today [2009] on the internet which feature the arched black cat logo which was known as 'Hoo-Hoo'."
