The Piersons who owned the soda fountain were also candy makers. Customers claimed they made the best peanut brittle ever. In the 1930s they moved to the Puyallup area where thay continued to make candy. Thanks to Frederick G. Foster for contributing information.
Thanks also to Sam Talley, who notes: "Soda fountains were popular from 1900 to about 1960. Most were in drug stores. They were a place to socialize, eat ice cream, and have soft drinks. Food items were limited. The 'soda jerk' would make drinks by mixing flavored syrups, carbon dioxide, and water. The fountains served all flavors of soda, milkshakes, malts, root beer, banana splits, sundaes, etc. Nowadays few authentic soda fountains remain. The drive-ins and self-service machines contributed to their demise."
