Thanks to Allen Petrich who notes: “The people with this large log on the railroad car were at the siding of the Clemmons Logging Company. The occasion of the photo was the largest spruce ever logged in Grays Harbor….the two women in the photo with the scaler’s measurement sticks are top, Dorothy Cotton, and below, Frances Carol Byles (Petrich); to her left is her brother Elvin Byles, bookkeeper at the company. To Elvin's left is their father Frank W. Byles who ran the company. One of the other men in the photo is Mr. Cotton, an official of the company and the father of Dorothy Cotton, who later became a dancer. Her son Jay North played Dennis the Menace on television. I am the son of Carol Byles Petrich and the grandson of F.W. Byles."
On 5/21/2011 at a public slideshow event in Hoquiam at the 7th St Theatre the following speculation was made about this photo:
"Is this the log yard at Montesano? The building looks similar."
