Thanks to Tom Quigg, who notes that this pier has now (2011) been filled in and has since 2007 been the location of Imperium Renewables, a producer of high quality biodiesel fuel. In 2011, more than 40 employees work 12-hour shifts to keep the plant running 24 hours a day.
