Description

Thanks to Terri Middleton, who adds that "Edwin Anthony Hobi was a well-known Aberdeen lumberman. He was born September 28, 1897 in South Bend, Washington to John Francis and Louisa Good Hobi and lived in that city until the family moved to Aberdeen. After his graduation from Weatherwax High School, he went to the University of Michigan for a year. His schooling was interrupted by service in World War I. After his discharge he returned to Aberdeen and that fall entered the University of Washington where he affiliated with Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was athletic and played football on the Michigan team and was a member of the University of Washington varsity football team when it played its first game in the new stadium. He was an executive of the Hobi Timber Company, the Aberdeen Lumber Company and the North River Logging Company. He died January 31, 1966 at the age of 68."    The preceding quote is from the first page of a book Ed Hobi wrote, an insider's look at the  early days of logging on the Harbor and his experiences in it. The book, called "Logging As I Seen It", and a companion video recording "Logging The Way I Seen It" (about the Hobi company) are available through the Timberland Regional Library System.  Ed Hobi was a great friend of Charles Middleton, which explains why he's in so many of the Anderson & Middleton pictures.
