Thanks to Chief Dave Carlberg who notes: "Considered one of the worst maritime fire disasters in City of Aberdeen history, the fire began late in the afternoon under the main Weyerhauser dock and eventually spread to the log ship SANYO MARU. The ship was moved directly across the river to the Ultican dock and the fire was fought by crews from Hoquiam and Montesano.  As a result sprinkler systems were soon required under wharfs and piers and the city aquired a new fireboat."
