The original Spruce Girls were young women who worked for Grays Harbor Veneer Co. and included Willa Biggs and Dorothy Davis (died July 2007). Dorothy Davis later became a junior high school teacher. In the summer of 2007, plans were being made for Willa Biggs to ride in a vintage car for the traditional Logger's Playday Parade under a banner reading "Channel Point Village's Spruce Girl", a reference to the assisted living facility in which the former Spruce Girl resided. The Hoquiam Elks club sponsors the parade and was celebrating its 100th anniversary so the participation of one of the original Spruce Girls was felt to be particularly appropriate. Willa Biggs died in August 2007 before the parade ; she was believed to have been the last surviving original Spruce Girl. Thanks to Willa Biggs and Jill Bellis for contributing information.
