Thanks to John Dominoski who adds: "The man on the left of the photo (with black hat and hands on hips), is William 'Bill' Hamm. At the time of this photograph he was the Sheriff of Grays Harbor County. He is my Maternal Grandfather. I saw this photo tonight (May 21, 2011) while attending the 7th Street Theatre's slide show featuring the Jones Historical Collection. We have had this print in the family for years but I had no idea that it was a Jones photo. Thanks for archiving these images. They are priceless!"
Thanks to Sam Talley, who writes: "In the late 1960's I often visited with an old man named Nils Hill of Hoquiam who was nearly 90 years old. He'd reminisce about his bootlegging days during Prohibition. He had a big still up on the Humptulips River. They had to take a boat to the other side where the still was located. This made it harder for the law to find it. He recounted that sometimes they'd get so drunk on the moonshine while making it, that they would capsize the boat on the return trip. They often got wet but never got caught. Mr. Hill loved telling the moonshine stories and kept us on the edge of our chairs with each account.”
