The B. F. Shearer Company was a West Coast full service theater equipment dealer/installer with offices in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. Although very active in the Northwest, they went out of business around 1972. Shearer was frequently hired to remodel theaters and re-outfit them. When Shearer Co. remodeled a theater or outfitted a brand new theater they contracted with local commercial photographers to document their work to use in their advertising portfolios. Thanks to Ken Layton for contributing information.
Additional thanks to Sam Talley, who writes: "As junior high school boys in the mid-1950's, we would put handfuls of JuJuBes candy in our mouths and get them soft and gooey. They were made of starch, gum, and corn syrup. We'd then drop them over the balcony at the D&R onto the girls' hair where they would stick. Unknown to me then, my present wife who is a year younger than I claims to have been one of my victims. All the girls learned to not sit directly under the balcony edge. I guess we were trying to get attention.”
