Description

Notes associated with this fire pumper claim: Built in Boston 1855; Came around Cape Horn to San Francisco 1857 ;  Came to Aberdeen in 1889 and was in use until 1905.
Thanks to Sam Talley who adds: "This 'Tiger' brand fire pumper was bought used in Portland, Oregon in 1898 for $400. It was brought to Aberdeen and a new 20 man fire company or fire deptartment was established. The 500-foot fire hose was rotten and had to be replaced. They named it 'Old Tiger'. A suction hose would be placed in water, i.e. a river, two men would manually operate the pump levers, and water would be sucked through the hose and onto a fire. Its use was discontinued in 1905."
