The Scammons House, with lace curtains and a tarpaper roof. Thanks to Pat Clemons, who adds: "This picture of the house was in The Daily World, Saturday, July 23, 1983, with this caption: 'Grays Harbor's first county courthouse. Montesano was selected as the county seat in 1860, after the Territorial Legislature separated Chehalis County from Pacific County. The name was changed to Grays Harbor County in 1915.' In the same issue of the Daily World: 'After the Territorial Legislature split Chehalis County from Pacific County in 1860, the Scammon house was selected as the county seat beating out Cosmopolis on a vote of 33 to 28. Isaiah Scammon also became postmaster after his home was selected as the first post office.'
