This bust of Mr. Eldridge Wheeler sat at the foot of the stairs of the school which bore his name, Montesano's Wheeler High School. Wheeler High was demolished and replaced by Montesano Junior-Senior High School. Thanks to Terri Middleton for contributing information.
Additional thanks to Sam Talley who notes: “Eldridge Wheeler started his teaching career in 1891. Wheeler was Superintendent of Schools in Montesano for 22 years. At one time he was the County Superintendent of Schools and was later a regent at the University of Washington. He was also involved in several local businesses. This bust was presented by former Montesano students on December 17, 1929. Mr. Eldridge was one of only a few people to be honored like this while still alive."
