Thanks to Sam Talley who notes "The 'landing' was the place where freshly cut logs were brought so they could be placed in a stream or river, loaded onto rail cars, or put on log trucks for transport away from the area. In this photo, logs are being placed on railcars. The top log is being slid up the outside log on the railcar by cable."
