Thanks to Susan Larson who comments: “In hindsight, it's too bad the charming old library was torn down. It would have been so much more charming to have added an addition for more space. When I was a little girl, my mother and I often went to the library in the evenings. Going up the stairs and entering the main building, there were large dark-stained wooden shelves full of books. The floors were also of dark wood. The entire downstairs was the children's section. There was a small stairway to the children's area. The stairs had little square marble tiles on the treads. While my mother looked for a book upstairs, I went downstairs and selected my allotment of 5 books to check out for 2 weeks."
