Thanks to Sam Talley, who notes: "On Highway 12 between Montesano and Aberdeen was Aberdeen Auto wrecking. They had about 490 cars ranging from the 1920's to the 1960's. The State bought the property and ordered that a car crusher be brought in and all the cars be crushed. I was involved in restoring old cars. When I heard this I tried to buy a lot of parts from the owner but the State mandated that he could not start salvaging parts. One fall night a friend and I hiked in from a rear logging road with several gunny sacks intending to 'acquire' valuable chrome trim and emblems. We got lost in heavy fog and had to ford a river, but found our way to the rear of the property at daybreak. It was on a Sunday morning. We filled 3 sacks full of removed parts and left. Shortly thereafter all the cars, except the ones in the owner's basement, were smashed. I restored three 1955 Chevs with chrome trim that I 'procured' and I found homes for all the other parts. The car crusher got everything else. What a loss!!"
