This aerial view by Stan Spiegle shows the start of the reconstruction of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which had collapsed in a storm in 1940. Because of the need for careful engineering as well as wartime materials shortages, rebuilding of the replacement bridge was delayed until the summer of 1948. Work was finished in October 1950.
