Description

This is most likely the Polson Co. Spruce Division around 1918 during the First World War. The man on the right is Alex Polson.  Thanks to John Larson of the Polson Museum and Terri Middleton for contributing information. During WWI the United States Army Spruce Camps employed over 150,000 men in the Pacific Northwest. The soldiers and officers assigned to the Spruce Squadrons worked with civilian loggers to harvest spruce timber for the construction of fighter aircraft.
