Description

Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "Concerning images 4351_1, 4354_1 and 4360_1, the Vance Lumber Company was started by Joe Vance in 1906 in what became Malone, a company town.  Mumby Lumber and Shingle was also located there. Eventually the mills and town folded up due to the Depression and Vance moved to Seattle. Malone is presently [2009] a small town north of Porter on Highwy 12 south of Elma. I could find no direct connection between Joe Vance and the ship LIZZIE VANCE, although the ship could have hauled lumber produced at his mill. In the 1880's the ship was owned by John Vance and his son George."
