Description

Businesses include Harbor Drug, the entry to Doctor H. C. Watkins' office at 316 1/2 8th St, F. Wetzel Jeweler and Stimson the Shoe Doctor.
Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: “Shoe doctors or cobblers were numerous when shoes were made of leather. The upper parts would last for years so just the soles and heels would be replaced. The Korry-Krome Leather Company, which has a sign in the window, was known as having heavy long-lasting leather soles. Much of the leather came from Argentina. They were the preferred boot of Army troops in WWII. Also in the store window is a Cats Paw sign. This company made rubber soles and heels. Their slogans were 'non-slip grip' and 'oil proof' to differentiate them from the shortcomings of leather parts.”
