Description

Thanks to Steve Leeson for providing information.
Added thanks to Sam Talley who notes that the E.K. Wood Lumber Company in San Francisco started the E.K. Wood Sawmill about a mile up the Hoquiam River in 1890. The mill's main purpose was to supply lumber for its nearby shipbuilding company, which was Grays Harbor's first big shipyard. It was felt that the lumber from Grays Harbor was the best shipbuilding lumber in the world. George Hitchings ran the shipyard which built the ALERT, MELROSE, SHASTA, RESOLUTE and many more."
