Image includes F. G. Foster Co., service stations, and Chinese Kitchen. F. G. Foster & Co. was an offshoot of Hoquiam's North Western Logging Co. general store. The original store, the largest in the Grays Harbor area, offered a wide variety of goods, from logging equipment to household items to groceries. In the 1880s, pioneer merchant Fred G. Foster managed the store for owner George H. Emerson. Later he established F. G. Foster & Co. which included the Harbor Hardware store in Aberdeen as well as stores in Lewis County, Raymond, and Hoquiam and a truck and equipment company . Fred Stearns Foster and Frederick G. "Fritz" Foster, son and grandson of the founder, owned and managed the stores together. Fritz Foster was a noted community volunteer as part of the Salvation Army's advisory board and an avid historian who contributed information to this website before his death in December 9, 2007 at the age of 79.
