Thanks to Mickey Thurman who adds this excerpt (first published August 4, 1961) from the Aberdeen Daily World: “Next week's observance of the 71st anniversary of Hoquiam’s founding promises to be one of the biggest local events in recent years. Gene Burleson of Kent will place a portable 32-foot barbecue pit on Seventh Street. For 39 cents plus tax anyone may get a quarter of a barbecued chicken, a helping of Hay's cottage cheese, pickles, Goodee's potato chips and a Seven-Up drink. The sponsoring Retail Trade Board will see that four big sale days will accompany the observance and Go-kart demonstrations will take place between J and K Streets.”
