In 2008, this house, the Vance Schafer home at 400 West 8th Street, was no longer surrounded by as much greenery as seen in this 1937 photograph.
Thanks to Terri Middleton who adds: "At the time the photo was taken this was the home of Samuel M. Anderson and his wife, Louise. Sam was a member of the Anderson-Middleton family and was at the time the president of the Bay City Lumber Co. He and his family lived in this house until the early forties when it was purchased by the Schafers."
