Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: "The SS ROBERT DOLLAR was named after its namesake owner Robert Dollar, a Scotsman born in 1844. He established the Dollar Steamship Company to haul lumber from his mills in the Pacific Northwest. In 1925 it was one of the most profitable shipping companies in the world. Mr. Dollar died in 1933 at age 88. The shipping company is now [2009] the APL or American President Lines with all its ships named after US presidents."
