Raft River
An aerial view by Stan Spiegle. Thanks to Terri Middleton for adding information.
"The Raft River rises on the Quinault Indian Reservation in northwest Grays Harbor County. It flows west to the Pacific Ocean 5 miles south of Queets. It drains most of the north half of the Indian reservation. The name is of very early origin, based on the fact that this river could only be crossed on rafts when there were no bridges. The name was placed on this river in 1857 by the surveyor general of Washington Territory. The Indian name, in the Makah language, was Loh-whilse. Raft Rock is at the mouth of the river."
