This aerial view by Stan Spiegle depicts the Meeker Shows carnival. This is now [2009] the site of the State Patrol in Hoquiam, a half block west of Myrtle Street on Pacific Avenue. The street running from top right to bottom center is Myrtle, with Aberdeen Avenue intersecting near right center. This area is the border between Aberdeen and Hoquiam. Thanks to William Smay for adding information.
Carnival attractions include a merry-go-round, game booths, and a small roller coaster.
A 1949 article in the Tri-City Herald describes the Meeker Carnival: "“The show with a million friends presents many new features such as the thrilling death-defying Rob Perry who rides the wall of death, Ina Lorraine and her red, hot and blue revue of beautiful girls and Murder Incorporated’s captured gang crime scene car…”
Additional thanks to Sam Talley who adds: "The Meeker Shows carnival was owned by Ralph Meeker from Tacoma. He started it in 1943 and sold the various rides at auction in 1987 because of insurance costs, government regulation, and low attendance. The carnival traveled throughout the western United States."
