Description

Banner : Basketball games, Chehalis vs. Montesano and Monte Girls vs. Elma Girls, Sat., Jan. 16, High School Gymnasium. Image includes Esmond's Men's Shop, Gaston Moch Jewelry & Stationery, a hardware store, a drug store, and a sign for the Star Pool Hall.
Thanks to Terri Middleton, who notes: “Gaston Moch drove one of Monte's first cars to Aberdeen - the trip took an hour and a half at the posted speed limit of 8 mph.  Moch's son, Robert, was the coxswain of the University of Washington crew team that took the Gold Medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.  Their 8-man boat is preserved in the Conibear Shellhouse at the University.  To get to Berlin the UW team defeated the University of Pennsylvania's team coached by Rusty Callow - of Montesano.”
