Thanks to Sam Talley who notes: “Shown here is a broken circular cut-off saw blade with bandsaw blades in the background. A circular blade was used to cut the logs into different lengths as they entered the mill. If the blade was 108 inches across, the saw assembly would be referred to as a '108-inch cut-off saw'. To cut rough widths of lumber from the log, band saws were usually used.”
